Bringing Your Yoga Practice Home – With George Wang
From Saturday, 21. December 2019
To Tuesday, 24. December 2019
Location : Main Gompa & yoga area on roof of Jamyang Building – above Dining Hall

Establishing an independent yoga practice on your own can be challenging if you don’t know where to start. Many of us may attend a yoga class regularly, but feel unsure about a self-practice at home.

In this course you will learn how to develop a home practice and create sequences that will keep you engaged and dedicated. You will explore different styles of yoga and their sequencing:

  • a Yang practice in the mornings, which is an active style, and
  • a Yin, or more passive, practice in the afternoons.

A Yang practice, working with the muscles and tendons, is usually made of eight pose groups – opening poses, Sun Salutations, standing poses, forward bends, twists, backbends, inversions and closing poses – ending with relaxation.

However, sometimes a slower, more internal practice is best, where you will hold poses longer and passively, either sitting or lying down. This is the Yin or quiet practice, where you will work gently to stretch and rehabilitate the connective tissues that form your joints.
